Who is Playa de las Américas best for?
Playa de las Américas is best for travellers who want beaches, restaurants, bars and entertainment on one promenade. It was built as a holiday resort from the 1960s and straddles two municipalities: most of it lies in Arona, while the Troya beaches at its northern end belong to Adeje.
It works well for:
- Groups and younger travellers who want nightlife close by, around the Veronicas strip.
- Surfers, from beginners to advanced, thanks to several reef breaks along the seafront.
- Families who like breakwater-protected beaches and have Siam Park a short drive away.
- Travellers without a car: the promenade links the beaches and buses run to the airport.
For somewhere quieter, compare neighbouring Costa Adeje or Los Cristianos.
What are the beaches like in Playa de las Américas?

The main beaches are protected by breakwaters, so the water is usually calm enough for swimming. Most sit along one seafront promenade you can walk end to end.

Where can I surf in Playa de las Américas?

Playa de las Américas is the south's main surf-school area, with breaks right off the promenade. El Conquistador is the usual spot for lessons and learners. La Izquierda, at the northern end, is a long left-hand reef wave for high-intermediate and advanced surfers. The most consistent swell arrives from autumn to spring.
What is there to do apart from the beach?
Beyond the beach, the big draws are Siam Park, golf and the nightlife. Siam Park is on the Costa Adeje side of the TF-1 motorway, about 3 km or around 10 minutes by car. A free park shuttle runs from stops in Las Américas.
Golf Las Américas is an 18-hole, par-72 course in the middle of the resort, with views across to La Gomera. After dark, the Veronicas area and the Starco commercial centre hold most of the bars and clubs.
How do I get from Tenerife South airport to Playa de las Américas?
By car, it is about 18 km along the TF-1, typically 17–21 minutes. By bus, TITSA line 111 links the airport with the resort and takes roughly 30–40 minutes, depending on your stop.
| From / to | Distance (km) | By car (min) |

| Tenerife North airport (TFN) | 84.4 | 59–74 |

Frequently asked questions
Is Playa de las Américas good for families or mainly for nightlife?
Both. The nightlife is concentrated around the Veronicas strip, while the beaches protected by breakwaters and the promenade suit families. If you have young children, choose accommodation away from the bar streets.
Costa Adeje or Playa de las Américas: which is better?
They share the same coastline and merge into each other. Costa Adeje is generally quieter and more upmarket, while Playa de las Américas has more nightlife and entertainment. It is also the south's main surf-school area.
Can I stay in Playa de las Américas without a car?
Yes. The beaches, restaurants and shops are connected by the seafront promenade, and TITSA bus 111 serves Tenerife South airport. A car only really matters for trips to Teide or the north.
How long is the transfer from Tenerife South airport?
About 17–21 minutes by car over roughly 18 km, or 30–40 minutes on TITSA bus 111. Allow extra time, as daytime traffic on the TF-1 can slow the drive.
Is Playa de las Américas noisy at night?
It can be, in and around the Veronicas and Starco area, where bars stay open late. Streets a few blocks away from the strip are much quieter. Ask us how far a specific property is from the nightlife before you book.
