Houses with a Private Pool in South Tenerife, Area by Area
For a house with a private pool in south Tenerife, four areas cover most needs: Costa Adeje for sandy beaches and restaurants nearby, La Caleta for a village feel by the sea, Callao Salvaje for quiet and sunsets, and Golf del Sur for golf and a short hop to the airport. This guide compares them…

Which area in south Tenerife is best for a private-pool house?
Costa Adeje is the best all-round choice, because it has the most sandy beaches and services within a short drive; the other three trade some of that for quiet, food or airport convenience. The table sums up the differences.
| Area | Best for | Nearest sand | To Tenerife South (TFS), km / typical min | Wind (guide consensus) | Car needed? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Costa Adeje | Families, groups, first visits | Playa del Duque, Fañabé, Torviscas (villa areas are uphill) | 20 / 17–21 | Among the least windy | Yes for hillside villas |
| La Caleta | Couples, food-lovers, walkers | La Enramada about 1 km; Playa del Duque about 2 km on foot | 23 / 23–30 | Among the least windy | Useful |
| Callao Salvaje | Quiet stays, long stays, sunsets | Playa de Ajabo, a small dark-sand cove | 28 / 23–29 | Among the least windy | Yes |
| Golf del Sur | Golfers, early or late flights | Rocky coast; La Tejita about 8 km by car | 8 / 13–16 | Closer to windy El Médano (13 km) | Yes |
Drive times are free-flow estimates on OpenStreetMap roads, published as a range; allow more at rush hour on the TF-1 motorway. The "Car needed?" column is our editorial judgement for a house, not for a seafront hotel.
Costa Adeje: beaches and restaurants within a short drive

Costa Adeje gives you the widest choice of sandy beaches in the south, with Playa del Duque and Playa de Torviscas both flying the Blue Flag for the 2026 season. Most pool villas here sit on the residential slopes above the promenade, which means sea views but steep walks back up, so plan on driving to the beach.
The area is also one of the most sheltered from wind: guides consistently list Costa Adeje among the calmest parts of Tenerife, as Teide blocks much of the trade-wind cloud. Nightlife is concentrated along the Verónicas strip in neighbouring Playa de las Américas, so a villa on the hillside is usually well away from it.
Villa Solanera is our four-bedroom villa here, with a heated infinity pool and ocean views towards La Gomera.
La Caleta: a village by the sea, with sand a walk away
La Caleta is a former fishing village at the north-western end of Costa Adeje, known for seafood restaurants along the old harbour. Its own shore is rocky, with steps into the sea, but Playa de La Enramada is about 1 km along the promenade and Playa del Duque about 2 km, roughly 25–30 minutes on foot.
Houses sit on the slopes above the village, and the undeveloped beach of Diego Hernández is about 2.7 km away on a rough, unshaded path (35–45 minutes each way). It suits people who like to walk to dinner and swim in the pool rather than on a busy beach.
Casa Sombra Verde is our three-bedroom house above La Caleta, with a long pool and a shaded garden lounge.
Callao Salvaje: the quiet choice on the south-west coast
Callao Salvaje is a small residential resort about 10 km (11–14 minutes) north-west of Costa Adeje, made up mostly of apartments and villas rather than large hotels, so evenings are calm. The coast faces west, which is why people gather on the clifftop promenade for sunsets over La Gomera.
The trade-off is the beach. Playa de Ajabo is a cove of dark volcanic sand about 100 m long, and Adeje's tourism site warns of strong currents, so check the flag before swimming. For many families this is exactly why a private pool matters here: the pool becomes the everyday swim, and the bigger beaches are a short drive away.
Villa Lava y Sal is our four-bedroom villa with a private pool and garden in Callao Salvaje.
Golf del Sur: next to the fairways and 8 km from the airport

Golf del Sur is the closest of these four areas to Tenerife South airport, about 8 km or 13–16 minutes by car, with two golf courses (Golf del Sur and Amarilla Golf) inside the resort. It has no sandy beach of its own: the coast is volcanic rock with a seafront path towards San Blas and Los Abrigos, and the nearest big sand beaches are Playa de la Tejita and El Médano.
Be aware of two things. Planes are audible at times, because the resort lies a few kilometres west of the runway, and how much you hear depends on the street and the wind. And Golf del Sur is on the south-east side of the island, closer to El Médano, which the official tourism board describes as windy on most days, than to the sheltered Adeje coast.
Villa Nueve Hoyos is our single-level, three-bedroom villa with a private pool near the Golf del Sur course.
Private pool or shared pool: what does the listing actually mean?

A private pool is used only by the people staying in that house; a shared or communal pool (piscina comunitaria in Spanish listings) is used by everyone in the complex. Both are common in south Tenerife, and the photos alone rarely tell you which one you are looking at.
Watch for these phrases:
- "Private pool" or "piscina privada": for your group only. This is what the four houses in this guide have.
- "Shared pool", "communal pool" or "piscina comunitaria": other guests and residents use it, often with set opening hours and complex rules.
- "Villa in a complex with pool": read carefully; this often means a communal pool, even when the house itself is detached.
- "Heated pool" without a temperature: the pool has some form of heating, but the listing does not promise how warm it will be.
On our website, a private pool and a shared pool are separate amenities, so you can see which one a property has before you book.
When is a pool warm enough, and is it heated?
A heated pool makes the biggest difference from December to April, when the sea off the south coast is at its coolest, around 19 °C in late winter. By September the sea is roughly 23–24 °C, and most people are happy in an unheated pool through the summer.
Winter days in the south are warm, with an average January high of 21.7 °C at the Tenerife South airport weather station (AEMET, 1981–2010), but nights are cooler, and an unheated pool loses heat overnight. If you are travelling with young children between December and April, heating is the feature to filter for.
Of the four houses in this guide, Villa Solanera has a heated pool; the other three list a pool without heating. Before booking any heated pool, anywhere, ask two questions: which months the heating runs, and whether it is included in the price or charged as an extra.
How do prices change by season?
Prices for our houses are higher in winter (1 December to 30 April) and in July and August, and lower in the rest of the year. The live price for your dates is shown on each property card in this guide, so we do not repeat figures here.
Three things change the total more than the nightly rate suggests:
- Minimum stay. Our houses have a minimum of 5 nights in low season and 7 nights in the winter and summer high seasons.
- Weekly discount. Each house has a discount for stays of 7 nights or more; the percentage differs by house.
- Cleaning fee. It is charged once per stay, so it weighs more on a short stay than on a long one. Compare the total for your dates rather than the price per night.
The same winter and summer seasons apply to our cars, which you can add to the booking.
Do I need a car for a pool villa in south Tenerife?
Yes, for all four areas we recommend a car, because the houses are on residential slopes or spread-out estates, and supermarkets and the best beaches are a drive away. Buses exist (TITSA lines 467, 473 and 470 serve La Caleta, Callao Salvaje and Golf del Sur respectively), but carrying a week's shopping uphill from a bus stop is no one's idea of a holiday.
We rent our own cars only together with a stay, with pickup and return at Tenerife South (TFS) or Tenerife North (TFN) airport, so you can drive straight to the house. A compact SUV has room for two large suitcases and sits higher on the hill roads.

Checklist before you book a pool house
Ask these questions before you pay, whoever you book with:
- Private or shared? Get it in writing, not just from the photos.
- Heated, and when? Which months the heating runs, the target temperature and whether there is an extra charge.
- Depth and steps. The shallowest and deepest points, and how you get in and out.
- Fence or gate. If you travel with young children, ask whether the pool area is fenced or can be closed off. Our house rules at Villa Solanera, for example, require adult supervision at the pool at all times.
- Sun and shade. Which part of the terrace gets afternoon sun, and whether there are parasols or a covered area.
- Walking distances. Ask for the actual walk to the nearest beach, shop and bus stop, and whether it is uphill on the way back.
- Noise. In Golf del Sur, ask about the house's position relative to the flight path.
- Tourist registration. Every holiday let in the Canary Islands must be entered in the Canary tourism register and show its registration number in every advert. Our property pages show it; our guide to booking direct and checking a licence explains how to verify one yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Which part of south Tenerife is least windy for a pool villa?
The Adeje coast, including Costa Adeje, La Caleta and Callao Salvaje, is generally among the least windy parts of the island, sheltered by Teide. The south-east around El Médano is the windiest, and Golf del Sur lies closer to that side.
Are private pools in Tenerife heated in winter?
Some are, many are not. Check the amenities for "heated pool", then ask which months the heating runs and whether it costs extra. Of our four houses in this guide, Villa Solanera has a heated pool.
What is the difference between a private pool and a communal pool?
A private pool is used only by your group. A communal pool (piscina comunitaria) is shared with the other homes or apartments in a complex and usually has opening hours and complex rules.
Which area is closest to Tenerife South airport?
Golf del Sur, at about 8 km or 13–16 minutes by car. Costa Adeje is about 20 km (17–21 minutes), La Caleta about 23 km (23–30 minutes) and Callao Salvaje about 28 km (23–29 minutes).
Can I walk to the beach from a pool villa in south Tenerife?
Sometimes, but rarely on the flat. Most pool houses sit on slopes above the coast. From La Caleta you can walk to La Enramada and Playa del Duque along the promenade; in Costa Adeje, Callao Salvaje and Golf del Sur, most guests drive to the bigger beaches.
What is the minimum stay for a house with a private pool?
For our houses, it is 5 nights in low season and 7 nights from 1 December to 30 April and in July and August. Other providers set their own minimums.
Can I rent a car with the house?
Yes. We rent our own fleet only together with a stay, with pickup and return at Tenerife South or Tenerife North airport, and you add the car when you book the house.
See our houses with a private pool and compare the total for your dates, with cleaning and an optional car added to the same booking.
